It has Cu2 O (copper oxide) blended into the resin of every D5000 PC AS CX drip emitter to create a long-term, safe, and non-leaching solution to reduce dripper root intrusion. It works to eliminate the need to frequently inject herbicides.

What are the risks associated with SDI systems?
Root intrusion and suction could be the main risks associated with SDI. With the Copper Oxide included in the drippers and AS (anti-syphon) mechanism, we are minimizing the risks.
How does Copper Oxide work towards repelling roots?
It has been well documented that copper reduces root elongation and branching. When plant roots encounter copper, the copper reduces trans-root potential and reduces cell elongation.
How does the anti-siphon mechanism work?
When we stop the irrigation on SDI, the system could try to introduce sand particles from outside of the dripper to inside. The anti-siphon mechanism reduces the suction avoiding sand particles to go into the dripper.
